How the Scam Started

The profile claimed to be a gymnast and a children’s gymnastics coach. She also claimed to have a master’s degree in management. These details were used to create a believable personal image: educated, athletic, feminine, disciplined and family-oriented.

The story also included the war in eastern Ukraine. She claimed to live in Alchevsk, in the Luhansk region, and described the situation as dangerous and frightening. This type of background can be used to build sympathy and explain why travel, documents or border crossing suddenly require money.

Scam Scheme: Passport, Travel Money and Controlled Territory Story

The reported scam developed around a typical travel-and-document scenario. The profile allegedly needed money for a passport and travel expenses. She claimed she was located in a Russian-controlled area and wanted to cross the line into Ukraine. This created a strong emotional hook: the man was not simply paying for travel, he was supposedly helping a woman escape a dangerous situation.
