She met a man from Ukraine on Facebook and while they never met in person they began a relationship. The woman was swindled and tricked by Ukrainian man she thought she loved.

I know people who’ve gotten married to somebody they met on the Internet. But for some people online dating mean heartbreak and going broke.

They were looking for love. They thought they found it.

How can you tell a Ukrainian Male Scammer online dating?

First they find you on dating sites, they write you “missing you”. When you are all alone and you don’t do much of anything just hearing once in a while makes you feel better. Sweet messages went her over.

It starts with romantic letters and poems evolved into mind games and emotional blackmail. The woman thought she was being cautious but it ends up losing thousands of dollars.  

It all started when she got a friend request on Facebook. The online friendship quickly escalated into a digital romance. Talked on the phone all the time, emails, messenger… In about a month of time into the relationship the man begins to hit the woman up for money.

Romantic conversations kind of like an unwritten fairy tale. The crazy way you talk to each other… Turn to coercion and manipulation.

“I am ready to marry you but first I need cash to do this and that”. “You are my dearest love and sunshine and my one and only”. “My wallet and credit card was stolen and I have a little boy and I cannot feed him”. “I need some money for my last job before I retired”. They ask money again and again. For different reasons. Woman send money, a lot of money before they realize it was a scam.

It’s amazing how they can get money out of somebody who doesn’t have it. It all happens over countless conversations and text messages.

Police won’t go to Ukraine arresting a scammer

It is the largest growing financial online fraud scheme. In just the last three years close to 50,000 complains have been filed, more than $1 billion swindled. Very few have been prosecuted.

Those easy to find these scammers are hard to catch. Many are organized and operate from countries like Ukraine or Russia. US government doesn’t have arrest powers to go and arrest somebody in Ukraine or Russia or wherever they’re from.

A telltale sign that there’s a scam as when they’re giving you money and asking you to give them money back. People in the US lost more money to the romance scam than any other scam in 2020. Victims are often elderly persons living alone, who don’t want to admit they’ve been scammed.

How to recognize a Ukrainian Male Romance Scammers?

How do you know if a guy from Ukraine is scamming you? There are several red flags to watch out for.

1. Camera will want to take off the site into text message or some other email or something like that. So they want to get it off the site.
2. They also move the relationship really fast. They’re very quick to say “I love you” so that bond gets build really fast.
3. The scammer will always have an excuse to never meet in person and the inevitable request for money is always bound to come up. When the relationship seems to be getting serious, something comes up: a health issue, a family emergency… The story may change but the request is always the same and it is always money.

Overview of the methods of Russian romance scams

Men are more active in looking for new girlfriends, chatting easily and making new acquaintances. Female scammers are well aware of this and often just “play in love” with such men. The consequences of deception can be different: from robbery or even a threat to health, to the loss of several hundred or thousands of dollars. In this article, we will look at the main methods of romance scams used by professional Russian scammers on dating sites. How do you recognize them? And, most importantly, how to get rid of such “fatal ladies”? ..

Money con («marriage swindle»)

Your correspondence started just yesterday. And today it turns into luring out various material goods or impressive sums of money. The reasons used by the Russian romance scammers are very different – from a serious illness to being enslaved by a tyrant husband somewhere in a southern country. “Marriage swindlers” promise to surrender entirely to the power of the man-savior, if only he pays them a ticket or treatment. Having found a wealthy and lonely man, the swindler begins manipulation. She will tell you about her problems, will send you “evidence” made in Photoshop, with traces of beatings and injuries (which are, in fact, professional makeup or taken from the Internet), etc.

A certain amount of money (for surgery, for a ticket home, for bribes) can be a solution for you Russian friend from dating site. Any attempts to offer other assistance, such as contacting the police in case of a threat to her life and health will not work. Russian romance scammers will find 101 ways to refuse them, and keep hoping for a pity pet. Do not respond to requests and pleas. Remember: if they want something else besides communication, it is suspicious!

Unfortunately, 99 out of 100 such requests are cheating. You can clear your conscience by offering other help or even promising to come – it is guaranteed to be refused. Another trick is to inform that you have good friends in the woman’s place of residence and they will definitely help her. We assure you that she will disappear immediately …

Robbery or cheating in real life (when you meet her in Russia)

When making an appointment with a girl you have never seen in a real life, be careful.

Particularly vigilant should be candidates for romance without commitments for one night. It is during such contacts that the girls insist on their anonymity, practically not saying anything about themselves. They say, I am married, I only need one-time intimacy and nothing more. Of particular note is the so-called “cloning girls”. They like to slip the mickey in the beverage. They meet men in public places, choosing those who are wealthy and tipsy. With new boyfriend such women usually go to their home or “to a hotel room, mixing clonidine (a strong sleeping pill) into alcohol. Usually the next morning a man is left alone and without money, and sometimes without pants. In addition, he may also lose health – the drug is strong and after using it, the general condition with memory can also significantly suffer.

Precaution

• Try not to bring unfamiliar girls to your place, use a hotel room or inform about video surveillance systems in the house;
• Do not leave the girl alone in the room with your glass and do not trust her to pour alcohol, especially when they are trying to send you out of the room even for a few seconds (bring champagne, etc.);
• Ask her more questions about her personal life, even without names;
• You must be vigilant and do not abuse alcohol;
• Take measures for the safety of valuables and money;
• If suspicions become stronger, imitate a cell phone call with a conversation, saying that in half an hour or an hour you will have to call or friends will come.

Blackmailers

Luring a man with an offer to “play naughty” in front of a webcam is a sweet thing! Having shown a couple of half-naked charms (while hiding her face), the girl demands reciprocity in order to continue and get a hotter treat. Perhaps the man will even receive it, but after a while the same girl or an unknown person will contact the man. This stranger will call himself her boyfriend, husband or brother. And then you will have several options:
1. You will be informed that the girl is underage, in addition, she is even less than 16 years old, and therefore big problems await you, unless you immediately transfer this amount of money to the specified account.
2. They will trace you in social networks (it’s not a rocket science when you have a photo, name, city, date of birth) and will be blackmailed by posting your “pranks” in the communities and sites of your city or on the pages of your friends (or, even worse, your wife! ) on a social network.

What to do? To dump or ignore. Of course, you can contact the police and make this fact public on your own, but do not rush to do this: such blackmailers almost never come to the execution of their threats in reality. After all, while the “victim” is afraid of disclosing compromising evidence, no one will report to the police, and when the compromising evidence is posted, the victim will have nothing to lose and he will 100% turn to the police.

The easiest way to protect yourself from such money con is do not “play naughty” anywhere and do not show anything intimate to strangers on the Internet!

Russian romance scammers. Conclusion

The above in no way suggests that Russian dating sites are dangerous, no! As in real life, certain precautions must be taken on the Internet – after all, in real life there is also a risk of running into a cloning girl, knob teasers or even becoming a victim of robbers. In this regard, the Internet is even safer – you have time to communicate and to get to know the person better.

Just do not forget one simple truth: most often male victims themselves provoke a woman to such behavior, allowing them to be manipulated. So just “turn the brain” and be alert and careful. Making new acquaintances, Russian scammers with naive blue eyes and plump lips carefully assess your behavior and your well-being. Therefore, do not rush to trust the first woman you like all your secrets, but take a closer look at her: check her sentimental “stories from life”, which she tells you off. Better yet, give her a little “test drive”: for example, tell her that you were suddenly ruined, or “admit” that you are already paying alimony to three exes … If after that the woman quickly loses her former interest in you, then love, unfortunately, was just a cunning calculation on her part…

Scammers who operate on dating sites and applications can be both men and women. They can fool you pretending to be a rich widower or a pretty girl who does not mind talking. In high summer, we have collected top stories about how men lose money on dating sites. Here are three schemes that scammers use.

1. Blackmail by the police

A girl from a dating site provokes a man to have frank conversations and offers to go to WhatsApp to send intimate photos.

A few days later, the policeman contacts the victim with a serious conversation: supposedly the “girl” with whom the man was talking is a minor, and her parents are seriously concerned about what is happening.

 Not to start a criminal case, you need to persuade her father to withdraw the statement.

When a frightened man calls the “parents,” they ask for a large sum to forget everything.

Protect yourself from scams. Do not pay and contact your lawyer. If the story turns out to be true, even the amount paid does not guarantee that parents change their minds to write a statement to the police.

2. Insecure dating Sites

The victim communicates with a stranger (scammer). From the first messages, the girl shows a playful mood: she flirts, ambiguously jokes and hints at the opportunity to get to know each other better. After the man is wormed up, he is offered to switch from a dating site to another service – for example, an anonymous video chat.

When a man follows the link, it turns out that first you need to register on the site and send a message to a short number to confirm registration. After that, money disappears from the victim’s account, the video chat does not open, and the new “girlfriend” adds the man to the black list.

Protect yourself from scams. Do not trust the services you see for the first time. If you’ve got a video call in a conversation, suggest switching to Skype or Facetime. If the girl continued to call on a third-party site, feel free to turn off the conversation – it’s a scam.

3. Blackmail with intimate photos

In the process of correspondence, the victim (men) is offered to exchange intimate photos. Having obtained a picture of the victim, the “girl” says that she can’t wait any longer and wants to immediately come to the interlocutor, (and she’s not asking for money). She says that she will get by herself, only the address is needed. Everything looks quite innocent.

But as soon as the man gives the address, the romantic mood of the “girl” immediately disappears, but her payment details and a direct threat appear instead. They say, if you don’t want your intimate photos to be seen by all the neighbors, please, here are the details. If you don’t pay for a certain period, it’s your own fault.

How to protect yourself. Do not pay: no one will go putting up your pictures all over the area. Sometimes fraudsters threaten to send intimate photos to the entire list of contacts on social networks. The only thing that can be done in this situation is not to pay. Because even if you pay them three times, no one guarantees that they will not put the photos online. Remember that it is better to be naked with money than naked without money. If you are not sure about the honesty of the person you are talking to, it makes sense not to send photos that make you easy to identify. For example, you can see the face or recognizable details like tattoos.

In Ivano-Frankivsk, officers of the Security Service of Ukraine together with the prosecutor’s office and the police liquidated an underground printing house for the production of forged documents.

Residents of Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia regions organized the printing of fake temporary residence permits and fake Ukrainian domestic and international passports. They provided “services” to Ukrainians who wanted to travel to EU countries and to foreigners who wanted to stay in Ukraine illegally.

For clients who lost their right to enter the Schengen area due to visa violations, criminals created duplicate Ukrainian passports of real people. They simply pasted a photo of the customer into the document. Such a service cost from two to three thousand euros.

For foreigners who wanted to obtain a temporary residence permit in Ukraine, the criminals searched for Ukrainian women who were ready to enter into a fictitious marriage with foreigners for a fee, and made fake residence permits.

During searches in the apartments and cars of the organizers of the crime, law enforcement officers confiscated dozens of domestic and foreign Ukrainian passports, photos of clients, hundreds of fake documents, including Ukrainian law individual taxpayer identification number, temporary residence permits and birth certificates. The special services also found printing equipment, printing inks, counterfeit seals, clichés and stamps of state authorities and law enforcement agencies.

Criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Art. 332 of the Criminal code of Ukraine have been instituted.

Some time ago, we received a signal from our client from Norway. He noticed unusual fraudulent activity on some dating sites. On various sites, he communicated (on his own behalf) with the same Ukrainian girls, but they did not recognize him.

This is his story:

I met some women here in Norway (from Russia, Poland and Ukraine) who live here with a Norwegian man, and they look so NICE and respectful and honest. It seems to be impossible to meet a woman like that on these dating sites.

I did NOT look specific for women from Russia, Ukraine or other countries from East Europe. Just a lot of sites pop up.

But it looks like a lot of those women are looking for money. We have a good life in Norway, the country is working very good. I don’t know if you have visit Norway sometime, but it’s a nice country.

I read a lot of articles on internet – so just the studio photos some of this woman take cost a LOT of money for them. That’s why I think “somebody” pay this for them. But scammers are everywhere in the world. Also on dating sites, here in Norway. In many sites from Holland, they put in some profile from Holland, and said they live in Oslo or other places. That’s easy to find out. I then start writing in Norwegian, then they don’t follow anymore.

A lot of them are also on Anastasia Date—and other sites.

Just some of them. The site must know this. You even got their E-mail address. But the woman doesn’t know who you are—when you see them on other site.

A lot of the same on site: Victoria hearts—even the same ID number. These women are on a lot of sites. I am sure it’s a lot more of them.

Elena–Go from the sites–to mail, then I talk with her on a messenger, after a while she starts asking for money.

Anna asks for money through her E-mail. When I said NO, she try to get me back on the site – don’t answer the E-mail. That’s why I think the sites are into this scam to. She sent me more than 600 mails, and I have to pay to open them.–Same with photos and videos. Several of the woman ask why I DONT open the photos and videos they sent to me.  Same for all of them.

When I look into other sites, they don’t remember me–so it is other peoples who is writing. They use they photos–or the woman is working with them on this scam. 

When I get the E-mail they have–I already use to much money. 

I never give any of this person money, or gift–so then they go away.

Just ask them some “control” questions, then they don’t tell me the right answer.

So this is how I find out how the sites and the woman operate. It is NOT so easy now to control every woman with a photo.

I still look on other sites, for more women who do this thing–that’s why I don’t my real name to be used. That I believe the women, –and the sites see.

So what you say:  We must to describe all these things otherwise those ladies may say we’re ruin their reputation (which would be fair enough……

I agree to do that. Maybe some other sees this, and don’t waste money and time on this woman. I learn a lot now, so it scares me–that it is A LOT OF THEM on these sites.

If the woman in the photo DONT KNOW about this its to bad, But with all this sites; I believe they know it.
